Common Thread Project

While the Pacific Northwest has seen many accomplishments due to partnerships between tribes and environmental non-profits, there is a need for growth.  The Common Thread Project will bring together both tribes and environmental non-profits to create a respectful and efficient way of joining to protect important common values in the area of resource and environmental protection.

Common Thread Project: Tribes and Environmental Non-Profits for Resource and Environmental Protection

What is the Common Thread Project?

The goal is to improve communication and collaboration between Tribes and environmental non-profits in the Pacific Northwest. We will:

* Hold listening sessions about collaboration between Tribes and non-profits;

* Develop a model for conservation groups to confer with tribes on resource protection policies and projects in a more regular and formal manner; and

* Encourage conservation groups to create policies to communicate regularly with tribes regarding natural resource interests.

Why do we need the Common Thread Project?

Resource protection and development in the context of treaty rights and conflicting jurisdictions is challenging. The Common Thread Project would bring together both tribes and environmental non-profits to create a respectful and efficient way of joining to protect important common values in the area of resource and environmental protection.

Listening Session: July 9, 2010, Lewis and Clark College, Portland, OR. We have a terrific lineup of experts to discuss the importance of communication, treaty rights, and effective collaboration, followed by an open discussion of key natural issues facing the Northwest.
