CRK Water Quality Volunteers are Winners of the YSI “Minding the Planet” Award!

From two years of monitoring the Columbia shorelines, high temperatures continue to be the most serious issue we monitor. Temperatures exceed 68F every July -Sept. which for juvenile salmonids encourages disease, slows growth, adds stress and at 73F becomes fatal. High temperatures occur along the entire Columbia from Lake Roosevelt all the way downriver to Kelso/Longview. Thanks to a generous $60,000 award from YSI, a water quality equipment company, we will soon receive 75 more temperature loggers, and new, easier to use monitoring equipment. I don't have to tell you how extremely exciting this is, and look forward to seeing as many old and new WQ monitors as we refocus and strengthen our program!
