Emily Kao's (she/her) work centers on leading holistic fundraising and advancing Columbia Riverkeeper’s commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Emily began volunteering with Columbia Riverkeeper in high school and worked with other non-profits in the gorge teaching environmental education and promoting awareness of environmental issues in the region.
What inspires you to do this work?
Communities that live along and use the river — swimmers, windsurfers, fishers, farmers; the natural wonder of the mighty Columbia; stewarding the watershed for next generations.
Riverkeeper’s team includes scientists, environmental lawyers, and community organizers. We work to organize and empower local communities, enforce environmental laws, and build strategic coalitions. Our mission is to protect and restore the Columbia River and all life connected to it.
