SUMMARY:Rumble on the River #29
DESCRIPTION:RIGGED FOR RUIN: Methane\, An Accelerating Threat To Health & Climate.\n \nFor the past two decades communities in the Northwest have defeated methane gas export terminals. Despite these successes\, the “natural” gas industry continues to push their product. Come learn about methane’s many harms and alternatives to its use—such as thermal heat networks. Discussion will include environmental\, climate and health impacts\, the damage dealt to communities\, and the rampant greenwashing of this questionable energy source. As a reminder\, Rumbles are always free! \n\n\nWhat: Rumble on the River #29: RIGGED FOR RUIN: Methane\, An Accelerating Threat To Health & Climate\n Date: March 24\, 2026\nTime: Doors at 5:30 p.m.\, panel at 6:30 p.m.\nLocation: Portland Association of Teachers Office\, 345 NE 8th Ave.\, Portland\nCost: Free!\nParking: Street parking is available\nPublic Transportation: Stops within 0.3 mile walk\n\nBus lines: 12\, 19\, 20\, 70\nStreetcar: A and B Loops\n\n\nBikes are welcome!\n\n\n\nPanelists include:\n\nCarra Sahler\, Director Green Energy Institute/Lewis & Clark Law School\nDanny Noonan\, Climate\, Energy & Labor Strategist/Breach Collective\nDiana Meisenhelter\, Environmental Justice Committee/NAACP and Action Team/Extinction Rebellion PDX\nMelanie Plaut\, Physician and Volunteer/Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility\nSamantha Hernandez\, Healthy Climate Program Director/Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility\nLynn Handlin\, Organizing member of Extinction Rebellion PDX and founding member of Cascadia Magical Activists (Moderator)\n\n\nBACKGROUND\nSince 2022\, Rumble On The River has presented 28 community forums in neighborhoods throughout Portland and at the Public Interest Environmental Law Conference\, University of Oregon. Rumbles bring together expert voices to discuss a range of environmental and social topics. These have included the Columbia & Willamette River ecosystems\, transportation\, false climate solutions\, urban forestry\, shade equity\, risk-bonding\, salmon restoration\, the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund and the Western Hemisphere’s most toxic site–Hanford. A recurring Rumble focus has been the Critical Energy Infrastructure (CEI) Hub and the potential hazards of having 90 percent of Oregon’s fuel and a dangerous mix of chemicals stored within Portland’s city limits on a riverside seismic liquefaction zone. \nRUMBLE CO-SPONSORS\n\n350 PDX \nAlliance for Democracy \nArbor Lodge Neighborhood Association\nBird Alliance of Oregon \nBraided River Campaign \nBreach Collective \nCathedral Park Neighborhood Association \nColumbia Riverkeeper \nCommunity for Earth/First Unitarian Portland \nCully Association of Neighbors \nEcoFaith Recovery \nEconomic Justice Action Group/First Unitarian Portland\nExtinction Rebellion-PDX \nFrog Ferry \nHavurah Climate Action Team \nHuman Access Project \nKBOO Radio 90.7 \nKenton Neighborhood Association \nLinnton Neighborhood Association \nMosquito Fleet \nMt Tabor Neighborhood Association \nNeighbors for Clean Air \nNo More Freeways \nOPAL\, Environmental Justice Oregon \nOregon Chapter of the Sierra Club \nOregon Conservancy Foundation \nOregon Physicians for Social Responsibility \nPearl District Neighborhood Association \nP.E.S.T.
