SUMMARY:Voices for the West: What’s NEXT? Oregon’s Massively ‘False’ Climate Solution
DESCRIPTION:Houston-based company NEXT Renewable Fuels (NEXT) wants to build a non-conventional diesel refinery in the Columbia River Estuary near Clatskanie\, Oregon. The second largest of its kind in the nation\, the NEXT refinery’s energy-intensive process to create alternative fuels would consume as much fracked gas as the City of Eugene\, and is permitted to emit 1 million tons of greenhouse gasses per year. The NEXT refinery also is proposed in an unstable wetland\, where it would discharge harmful pollution during construction and operation\, harm sensitive fish and wildlife habitat\, create conditions for a catastrophic spill\, and negatively impact local family farms. \nJoin our next Voices for the West webinar on September 3 at 12 p.m. for a discussion with Audrey Leonard\, Staff Attorney at Columbia Riverkeeper\, and Andrew Missel\, Staff Attorney at Advocates for the West\, on our challenges to this misguided proposal. \n\nRegister here to attend the webinar.\n\n\nWatch a short video about the NEXT proposal.

SUMMARY:Rumble on the River #25
DESCRIPTION:What Can We Do About The CEI Hub?\nIt is time for the 25th Rumble on the River Community Forum! Join us on September 25 to celebrate the 25th Rumble and learn more about what’s happened and what’s ahead with the ongoing CEI Hub Policy Project.  \nThe CEI Hub has been a recurring topic at Rumble forums over the years\, including the potential hazards of having 90 percent of Oregon’s fuel and a dangerous mix of chemicals stored within Portland’s city limits on a riverside seismic liquefaction zone. This is an opportunity to help Portland make the right changes in rules and regulations to deal with the dangerous and climate disrupting Critical Energy Infrastructure Hub. \nFor the last two years\, we have held community forums throughout Portland and surrounding areas. As we celebrate our 25th Rumble\, we continue to honor the memory of one of the most well-loved and frequent panelists\, Bob Sallinger. \nNo RSVP is required.\nWHAT: Rumble on the River 25: What Can We Do About the CEI Hub  \nWHEN: September 25\, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. \n\n5:00 p.m. – The Unpresidented Brass Band performance\n5:30 p.m. – Rumble Co-Sponsor Tabling & 25th Rumble Celebration\n6:30 p.m. – Rumble Community Forum\n\nWHERE: 1241 Lloyd Center \n\nUse the northeast parking lot on NE Halsey by the old Marshalls store.
