This is a great time to show up and speak up for communities downstream of Hanford.  \n\nWhen: Sept. 22\, 2026\, 5:30 p.m. \nWhere: Albina Library\, 205 NE Russell Street\, Portland\, OR 97212 \nWhy: Hanford’s Dangerous Waste Permit (also known as Hanford’s Sitewide permit) covers 52 waste sites and facilities at Hanford and is one of the primary resources that Ecology has for overseeing the U.S. Department of Energy’s treatment\, storage\, and disposal of hazardous and radioactive waste. The last time the permit was up for public comment was in 2012. This iteration\, known as Rev. 9A\, is Ecology’s effort to have a current\, enforceable\, consistent\, and implementable permit that is protective of human health and the environment from Hanford’s radioactive and chemical risks\, as well as a response to comments gathered in 2012. DESCRIPTION:This session has been canceled!\nThe Oregon Governor’s Data Center Advisory Committee (DCAC) has canceled its upcoming listening session for public input. The session was scheduled for Wednesday\, September 23\, 2026\, from 4 – 7 p.m. before being removed from the committee’s webpage. \nIt’s disappointing that the committee has canceled this important opportunity for public participation\, especially since the previous listening session was fraught with technical issues which prevented many from participating. This now-canceled session was added to address that problem.  \nIn addition\, the DCAC webpage states that it held over nine hours of general public listening sessions in addition to verbal comments from the public at each of their meetings. By our count\, the DCAC only held two sessions of three hours each\, with the second three hour session full of technical difficulties.  \nOn September 10\, the DCAC released a Preliminary Learnings and Questions Document and opened a written public comment period that will be open until 5 p.m. on October 24.   \nColumbia Riverkeeper staff are reviewing the committee’s document and will share our assessment and suggested talking points for comments in the coming weeks. DESCRIPTION:We need you to speak up and tell the Portland City Council we must increase safety and reduce risks at the Critical Energy Infrastructure (CEI) Hub! \nThe CEI Hub is a six-mile stretch of dangerous fuel tanks located in Northwest Portland that nearly 90 percent of Oregon’s fuel passes through\, up to 350 million gallons. The tanks are owned by climate villains like Zenith Energy\, BP\, and Chevron. The tanks are unsafe for people\, the rivers\, Forest Park\, and wildlife. In 2025\, the City of Portland received a federal grant to create a policy to make the CEI Hub safer. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make meaningful changes to increase CEI Hub safety and decrease risk. \nThe day for public testimony is September 24\, and we need all hands on deck.
