Celebrating Riverkeeper Volunteers

By Lorri Epstein, Water Quality Director —

In preparation for Riverkeeper’s volunteer appreciation dinner last week, I found myself revisiting a season’s worth of photos and reflecting on all the individuals who were involved with Columbia Riverkeeper this year. I am continually humbled and inspired by the generosity and dedication of our volunteers. This year hundreds of Riverkeeper volunteers monitored over 75 sites from Wenatchee to the estuary, helped with restoration projects, pulled invasive weeds, supported Riverkeeper at events like our Salmonbake and  Spirit of the River, and removed over 4,500 pounds of garbage from the River.

Our volunteers make up a diverse community of committed people that are all connected by the Columbia River. It’s a community that I am proud to be a part of. Thanks to our amazing volunteers, 2011 has been a wonderful season. Check out this slideshow video that highlights the different ways that our volunteers have supported Columbia Riverkeeper and the Columbia River this year.

And keep your eyes peeled for some new exciting volunteer opportunities in 2012.
