The Dalles concerned about coal export, passes resolution

The City of The Dalles passed a resolution last week raising concerns about the impact of coal trains on their environment and economy.  The Dalles noted the potential increase in trains from coal export proposals, and the potential negative impacts to traffic congestion, emergency service response times, and the impact of coal dust and other particulates on the community's health, environment, safety, and local business.

The resolution concludes, "The City Council urges the appropriate authorities to require an environmental and economic impact statement which identifies and measures the impacts on the City of The Dalles and other communities located within the Columbia River Gorge from the increase in coal train traffic.
