LNG Fight Re-emerges in Oregon and Washington

The Skipanon Peninsula, site of proposed LNG terminal.

For years, Oregon LNG has been pushing a scheme to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) into Oregon. In 2007, Oregon LNG argued that importing LNG was absolutely necessary to preserve our energy security. Now, in 2012, Oregon LNG is promoting a plan that will liquefy and export huge volumes of natural gas to Asia, which will raise energy costs for every resident and business in Oregon and Washington.

In June, Oregon LNG unveiled its plans to export LNG, and dozens of Oregonians and Washingtonians were there to ask tough questions and learn more about the proposal. In a cramped room in Warrenton, Oregon LNG provided little detailed information about its new proposed pipeline through Oregon, across the Columbia River, into Woodland, Washington. Dozens of LNG opponents attended from Washington County, Yamhill County, Puget Island, Longview, Pacific County, and Clatsop County. Attendees wore "NO LNG" buttons, red shirts, and provided information to people who are new to the LNG issue.

Oregon LNG's Open House is a prelude to upcoming Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) hearings. When official hearings occur, we will ask everyone to attend. Stay tuned on our website for more information about Oregon LNG's plans to export North American natural gas to Asia.
