Van Jones Endorses Portland Ballot Initiative

Portland Clean Energy Initiative ensures that large retail corporations making over $1 billion a year pay their fair share on the revenues they make here in Portland. And, it gives Portland the funding to take action at the local level to counter the Trump Administration’s rollbacks on climate change by increasing clean energy sources and clean energy jobs. We need to pass this initiative so that corporations pay their fair share and we can fund the clean energy and job training Portland needs.

Van Jones Endorses Portland Clean Energy Initiative, Do You?

The Portland Clean Energy Initiative is the most important ballot measure in the country right now.

Van Jones, National Green Energy Leader, Activist, and Author

Don't take it from us, take it from national green energy leader, activist, and author Van Jones, who spoke at an event in Portland last week in front of hundreds of people and couldn't stop raving about the Portland Clean Energy Initiative.

This initiative ensures that large retail corporations making over $1 billion a year pay their fair share on the revenues they make here in Portland. And, it gives Portland the funding to take action at the local level to counter the Trump Administration’s rollbacks on climate change by increasing clean energy sources and clean energy jobs. We need to pass this initiative so that corporations pay their fair share and we can fund the clean energy and job training Portland needs.

With less than a month until ballots land in mailboxes, we need everyone to pitch in to ensure this historic initiative passes. Here’s how you can help:

  • Weeknight Phonebanking: From now until Election Day, join us at the Sierra Club office/Portland Clean Energy Initiative headquarters (1821 SE Ankeny St.) Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 4:30 - 8:00 pm. Most nights there will be food, but feel free to bring a dish or snack to share if you are able. Can we count on you to phone bank this week or next?
  • Canvassing on the Weekends: The best way to make sure we win? Talk to voters directly at their doors! There are two shift options on both Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm & 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Meet at the Sierra Club/Portland Clean Energy Initiative headquarters (1821 SE Ankeny St.). Some suggestions: wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for some rain (we will walk no matter what). If you don’t have a raincoat, we have ponchos. If you have a smart phone, please bring it fully charged and download the MiniVAN app and set up an Action ID prior to coming. If you’re not able to do that, no worries--we can guide you through it when you get here. Can we count on you to come knock doors with us?
