Attend 11/20 City of Portland public hearing on fossil fuel ordinance

Let’s come together and share our voices, combining our strengths to let industry know that we don’t want any more expansions of oil terminals.

Join Us to Support Implementation of Portland’s Landmark Fossil Fuel Ordinance!

It’s been three years since Portland’s City Council voted to prohibit large new fossil fuel terminals in our community. Having successfully defended the policy from constitutional challenges brought be the oil industry, the City Council is ready to vote on the fossil fuel zoning code ordinance. In this hearing, the City Council will consider how to resolve remaining issues from a 2017 Land Use Board of Appeals decision.

Join us to lend your support for the City Council’s effort to protect our health, safety, clean water and climate from dangerous fossil fuels.

  • Portland City Council Hearing on Fossil Fuel Zoning Code Ordinance
  • Location: City Council Chambers, 1221 SW 4th, Portland OR
  • When: Wednesday, November 20, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
  • RSVP on Facebook

The City posted its new draft report, and we expect the City to prepare new findings soon in support of the fossil fuel ordinance. So far, the City is holding firm to the intent of the original ordinance—placing a firm restriction on new fossil fuel storage and transloading facilities. The draft report plans to retain the City’s restriction on fossil fuel expansions.

We hope you will join us in encouraging the City to stand strong against pressure from the oil and gas industry who are likely to argue against the ordinance.

Here are a couple of photos from 2016’s packed hearings to jog your memory!
