We need a “time out” on new and expanded mega-dairies in Oregon

A few months ago, pressure from people like you helped convince Governor Kate Brown to revoke the permit for the polluting Lost Valley Farms mega-dairy. But we know that Lost Valley is just the tip of the iceberg. Weak rules have allowed industrial mega-dairies across Oregon to push family farmers off the land, pollute Oregon’s air and water, and threaten animal welfare.

In response, Oregon’s Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee introduced legislation that would place a moratorium on new and expanded mega-dairies until the state enacts laws to protect its communities and special places.

Urge your elected officials to support this critical legislation!

The industry and Oregon officials have tried to claim Lost Valley Farms was a single bad actor. That’s simply not true. Lost Valley is just an extreme example of the inherent dangers of factory farms that are “too big to fail” and capable of causing catastrophic harms.

Our legislators need to act now to protect Oregon from dangerous mega-dairies.

Mega-dairies aren’t consistent with the kind of state most Oregonians want—one that values and protects clean water and vibrant rural communities.
