Columbia Riverkeeper is calling on the U.S. Department of Energy to keep Hanford under public ownership and free of new nuclear development!
The Tri-Cities recently asked the U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE) to give more than 1,600 acres of the Hanford site to private industrial developers. Hanford is public land that the public is paying dearly to restore-the USDOE shouldn’t just give it away. Even worse, the proposed industrial development would likely include a new nuclear power plant and/or a Uranium enrichment facility. Riverkeeper is asking the USDOE to finish cleaning up Hanford’s toxic legacy before allowing any new development, especially new nuclear projects.
