Another TC Energy pipeline explodes

TC Energy blows it, again.

TC Energy is the same company whose Keystone Pipeline spilled 600,000 gallons of crude oil into a Kansas stream earlier this year. The incident in Virginia is pretty astounding in its timing.

This Thursday, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will decide whether to approve TC Energy’s proposed GTN Xpress pipeline expansion. The GTN Xpress proposal would push even more fracked gas through a decades-old pipeline in the Northwest.

Is FERC really going to approve the risky project less than 48 hours after another major TC Energy pipeline failure?

Because the Senate assists the President in appointing members of FERC, they are more likely to consider Senators opinions on projects. We still have not heard from Washington Senators, help us increase the pressure on FERC.

Please call Washington Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray, and ask them to publicly oppose GTN Xpress. This is the most impactful way to take action at this time.
  • Sen. Cantwell: (202) 224 - 3441
  • Sen. Murray: (202) 224 - 2621
Here are some talking points:
  • My name is XX. I am calling to urge the Senator to contact FERC today to oppose the GTN Xpress project. FERC is poised to make a decision on the GTN Xpress project on Thursday. Just this morning, another TC Energy-owned pipeline ruptured and burned 80 miles from Washington D.C.
  • The latest pipeline rupture demonstrates the terrible safety record of TC Energy, the backer of GTN Xpress. GTN Xpress will increase the risk of a pipeline failure and wildfires in Northwest communities.
  • FERC continues to ignore the safety risks of the GTN Xpress project. I urge the Senator to immediately call on FERC to deny the GTN Xpress project or remove it from this week's agenda.
