Joel Senecal (He/They) works to make databases a tool for good, maintaining the data that the Columbia Riverkeeper team relies on. Before Joel managed databases with multiple nonprofits in Portland, he began his career in data while working for craft breweries both in China and the U.S. Joel enjoys the opportunity to focus on work that serves his local community in Portland and along the Columbia River.
What inspires you to do this work?
I want to ensure that the Columbia River persists as the vital resource it is, inspiring future generations with its beauty and abundance. I get great personal joy from being near the river and want to help protect it for those who rely on it.

Riverkeeper’s team includes scientists, environmental lawyers, and community organizers. We work to organize and empower local communities, enforce environmental laws, and build strategic coalitions. Our mission is to protect and restore the Columbia River and all life connected to it.
