Andrea K. Capere, EMPA (she/her) is a filmmaker and writer with a deep passion for untangling complex issues. She has more than a decade of experience leading digital communications campaigns on issues related to anti-poverty legislation, K-12 education, digital equity and inclusion.
What inspires you to do this work?
I hail from the Key Peninsula in Washington state. My girlhood was spent marveling at once-abundant amphibian and insect life, fishing with my father, and learning about native edible plants. Growing up in poverty, camping and fishing were affordable activities that sustained my family.
Environmental destruction affects us all, yet the shock felt by tribal nations, communities of color, and low-income families deepen their experiences of inequality. As anthropogenic climate change disrupts our natural landscape and creates climate refugees, a recognition of the interconnectedness of ecological degradation and the downstream social impact is crucial.
I do this work because I believe everyone deserves clean water for life, responsible recreation, and culturally responsive use. I am thrilled to leverage my skills at Columbia Riverkeeper, contributing to the powerful advocacy of the organization in fighting fossil fuels, stopping pollution, cleaning up Hanford, and saving marine life.
Riverkeeper’s team includes scientists, environmental lawyers, and community organizers. We work to organize and empower local communities, enforce environmental laws, and build strategic coalitions. Our mission is to protect and restore the Columbia River and all life connected to it.
