Keep Umatilla County Nuclear-Free

Together with hundreds of our members and supporters, we have whittled down the thirteen pro-nuclear bills introduced in the Oregon legislature to just two remaining bills. We need your help now to keep the pressure on our legislators to make sure these last two dangerous bills do not become law. We need our leaders to be focused on real solutions to the climate crisis: energy efficiency, renewables, and storage–not wasting time and resources on a nuclear fantasy.

Tell your legislators: Keep Oregon Nuclear Free!

Dear Legislator,

As your constituent, I am asking you to reject HB 2410 and HB 2038 and Keep Oregon Nuclear-Free.

HB 2410, would exempt Umatilla County from the statewide moratorium on building new nuclear reactors, allowing small modular nuclear reactors to be built in the county.

This bill is an attempted end run around the state’s long standing moratorium on building new nuclear reactors which requires a federal waste repository and a vote of the people of Oregon to overturn it. Since the bill only requires a vote of the people of Umatilla County, people in neighboring counties that could also be negatively impacted have no say in the matter.

HB 2038 would require the Oregon Department of Energy to study nuclear power. This is an unnecessary distraction from the real challenge of meeting Oregon’s clean energy goals. New nuclear reactors divert funding from energy efficiency, renewable energy, and storage technologies that are safer, less expensive, and faster to deploy.

Don’t fall for a false solution. Oppose HB 2410 and HB 2038. Keep Oregon Nuclear-Free.
